If you’re like me you’re probably wondering what makes the Nintendo DS Lite different than the original Nintendo DS. I have to admit that when I first wanted to buy a new Nintendo DS Lite I didn’t know there was even a difference! I thought they were both the same thing. When you’re looking to buy a cheap Nintendo DS Lite online it’s good to know what you’re looking at because many people will use the two names interchangably. If you find a great price on a “Nintendo DS” make sure it’s for the Nintendo DS Lite, assuming that’s what you want to buy. I don’t think there’s too many original Nintendo DS units still for sale, but it’s good to double-check just in case.

What if you already have a Nintendo DS? Do you need to buy a Nintendo DS Lite? It depends on how happy you are with your current system. If you’re perfectly happy playing games on your Nintendo DS it probably doesn’t make much sense for you to buy a DS Lite. However, if you currently don’t own a Nintendo DS it only makes sense to spend your money on the newer model.

If you currently own a Nintendo DS you’ll probably notice that the screen is a lot brighter on the DS Lite. You can also adjust the brightness of the screen which is nice. Chances are you’ll need to make adjustments depending on whether or not you’re playing in the dark or sitting in front of a bright sunny window.  The screen on the DS Lite also seems to be a lot more durable. If you play a lot of games with the stylus you may eventually notice some scratches on the screen of the Nintendo DS. This doesn’t seem to happen with the DS Lite even with excessive usage.

The DS Lite also features a slot to store your stylus and has the ability to play Game Boy Advance games. However, you still can’t play other Game Boy games with Nintendo DS Lite. The DS Lite also comes with fake Game Boy catridge to protect the slot when not in use. If the slot was kept empty dust and dirt could collect in there and possibly damage the unit.

Now that the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite have been out for a while there’s a wide selection of great games to choose from. If you can find a cheap Nintendo DS Lite on sale online it will certainly be a wise investment and will provide hours of entertainment for years to come.
